PORT DICKSON - The body of a motorcyclist was almost severed when he was flung against a steel road-divider after his machine skidded at the 11.4km stretch of the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway today.

The deceased was identified as private college student Mohd Amiral Abdul Kadir, 20.

On way home

A police spokesman said Mohd Amiral was returning to his Seremban home from here when his motorcycle skidded, causing the victim to be flung against the road-divider.

It is believed Mohd Amiral had finished his practical training at a hotel here and was on the way home when the mishap occurred.

Second tragedy

In another crash, a woman was killed when her motorcycle collided with a car at Bandar Enstek in Nilai this afternoon.

Nor Haliza Mohamed Hali, 21, who worked as a toll booth collector, died on the spot about 3.30pm.

According to Bernama, she sustained head and body injuries.

In a related development, Federal deputy traffic chief Asst Comm Fuad Abdul Latif said the police would monitor 377 accident-prone stretches along federal roads during Ops Sikap 21 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival starting today.

More patrols

The police would conduct more frequent patrols along the accident hot spots.

Twenty summons were issued to motorists for speeding hardly two hours after the launch of Ops Sikap 21, he told reporters after launching the operation at a the Road Transport Department roadblock at Kampung Mentara near Gua Musang today.

Three million vehicles expected

He said about 5,000 traffic policemen would be deployed during the operation, for which the police anticipated about three million vehicles would be using federal roads.

"We hope the death toll during Ops Sikap 21 will be lower than 221 recorded during the Aidilfitri festival last year," he said, adding that more attention would be given to the safety of public transport.
