Perhilitan officers to track down tiger
Sunday, 07 February 2010 17:45
IPOH - Seven Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) enforcement officers have been deployed to the Bukit Tapah Forest Reserve, Sungkai, about 100km from here to track down a tiger, which was believed to have attacked a villager on Friday.

Perak Perhilitan director Shabrina Shariff said the enforcement officers, who left this morning, might set a trap to catch the tiger or shoo it deep into the jungle.

He said the tiger could have lost its way while looking for food when it stumbled upon Orang Asli Yok Meneh Yok Din, 47, and pounced on him.

Fighting back with bare hands

In the 1.30pm incident, the villager, who was foraging for petai, suffered injuries on his back, hands and legs when he fought back with his bare hands.

The Orang Asli then dragged himself of the forest to seek help after the tiger released him, according to a Bernama report.

Yok Meneh, who is from Kampung Ras near Sungkai, is nursing his injuries at the Teluk Intan Hospital.
